“First is the dream, then development, followed by improvement until the dream becomes a reality.” - Jim Casey
Edwin's style and process result from being exposed to music very early. The first song he reacted to was the Four Tops - Reach Out (I'll Be There) when he was two years old. He would dance in his walker whenever his parents would play that song on their stereo at home. In the mid to late 60s and early to mid-70s, it was Pop songwriting, the Soul rhythm and emotion, and the power of Rock music which drove him to take guitar and drum lessons in his pre-teens. Edwin then joined his friends as part of a local cover band as the percussionist in his early teens.
1976-1977 was the start of his love of dance music. The significant influences of Kraftwerk, Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, Gamble & Huff, McFadden & Whitehead, Baker, Young & Harris, Oscar De Leon, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Patrick Adams, Alec Costandinos, Marc Cerrone, Raymond Donnez (Don Ray), Boyd Jarvis, Winston Jones, Marshall Jefferson, and Larry Heard led him into the production of house music in the early '90s. In summary, Edwin's current composing, arranging, and production style derives from music spanning the late 60s until today. Pop and Soul songwriting, the lead electric guitar and drums of Rock, the rhythm and arranging of the late '70s dance and salsa music, and the raw do-it-yourself production of the early '80s heavily influenced the music he would eventually create. The D-I-Y pioneers of the early 80s in New York and New Jersey exposed Edwin to the possibility of recreating all his musical influences without needing a large studio with an equally large budget. During the late '80s and early '90s, Edwin rolled up his sleeves and taught himself the art of DJing, building chords, instrument arrangement, and songwriting.
A budding career at a well-known music promotion firm in New York provided the platform for further evolution into production, artist management, remixing, and, finally, a record label. He composed, arranged, and wrote several tracks under varying artistic names, such as Monolith, The Vision, Prelude & Co., Logic, Eddie Satin, Satin, Satin & Scarlett, Satin & Silena Murrell, Mae I, Edwin Maduro, and Breadth of View. Additionally, providing dance music production and remix work for Salt & Pepa, Charles & Eddie, D'Bora, Angelique Kidjo, Queen Latifah, Donna De Lory, Rozalla, Lonnie Gordon, Mica Paris, The Party, Rosie Gaines, and Jimmy Z feat Dr. Dre.
Not long after this relatively short foray into the music business, marriage, a home, and children brought a new single-minded focus. Over the following two decades, Edwin accomplished success in life that he would have never thought was possible. Fast forward to the Covid pandemic stopping the world in the spring and summer of 2020, and Edwin once again engaged with music and re-discovered a passion that was put aside but never really gone. Irrespective of time and circumstances, his journey and experiences led to Edwin's decision to follow his ear and heart and produce the best music he could for EAM Music. Music that is born of rhythm and is a reflection of a music history full of inspiring work.
